B-52 Divert into RAF Fairford

21/10/2022

On October 21st, 2022, a Boeing B-52H Stratofortress diverted into RAF Fairford whilst on a Global Power Mission (GPM). The aircraft was 1 of 2 that had flown direct from Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana and was planned to return to Barksdale, meaning it'd have been in the air for at least 24 hours! 60-0022 STORM12 appeared to have some problems whilst air-to-air refuelling, as the AAR doors were open on the aircraft whilst sat on the ground. It may have been that the doors failed to close!

It finally departed for home on Monday, October 31st, following 1 failed attempt at departing the week prior.

0022, which has the nose art 'Deuces Wild', can be seen below sat on the ground at Fairford shortly after arriving. This aircraft was also present at RIAT 2017, so, whilst it wasn't another new B-52 to tick off the list, it was nice to see. This was the first Barksdale buff to have been at Fairford since 60-0024 departed for home on November 12th, 2019!
